The Athena-Weston School District recognizes that food insecurity is
an increased concern for some of our students and families during the current government shut down. There are several
school-based and community-based resources that can support families in need. The school district can help families connect with critical services.
First, ALL students in the Athena-Weston School District can eat both breakfast and lunch at school at no charge. The district qualifies for this food service program. No paperwork is required for your child(ren) to eat free breakfast and lunch at school.
Second, the Athena-Weston School District has an internal food pantry for district families. We can deliver monthly food boxes to homes of students on an as-needed basis. We would be happy to add your family to our list if you could benefit from additional food security support.
Finally, there are several local resources available to our families, and they are outlined on the back of this letter. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's school or to the District Office if you need assistance connecting with school-based and community-based food security resources.
Sincerely,
Ann Vescio, Superintendent
